The construction of racial identity
12:00pm Fri 15 Apr

About this session
It is widely accepted today that racism is socially constructed and not based in biological essentialism. Nonetheless there is a dearth of understanding of the nature of this social construction - both how racism emerged and why it persists. This talk will examine racism with a Marxist lens to understand how racism developed, its changing faces, and how it can be relegated to history where it rightfully belongs.
